once upon a toothless fish...

a few weeks ago my family and i went on vacation in the lakewood area of nothern wisconsin. the cabin we rent is located right on maiden lake- popular spot for boaters and fisherman.

one evening my stepdad and i went out for a ride. he fished and i enjoyed the scenery (i've never been into fishing, but i enjoy boating) and much to our surpise he caught a small lake bass. he reeled the little guy in and i pulled him (her?) out of the water with the net. the bass was rather ugly to begin with, but i noticed he was covered with suspicious black spots. my stepdad removed the hook from his mouth and the bass slipped out of his hands and onto my foot. i tried to grab him, but to no avail. as my stepdad reached over to grab him i looked down at my foot and my toe was bleeding (something was stuck under my toe nail). my stepdad the casually remarked, "the black spots means he has a disease." i smiled, "oh, that's nice."

the other day i sat down with a pair of tweezers and nail clippers and removed a large tooth from under my toe nail. so somewhere in maiden lake a diseased tootheless fish. tragic.
