here is a thought, and keep the penny

an excerpt from a book i read recently titled faith that makes sense by dr. j. edwin orr:

"in considering the question of authority from a christian standpoint, one can afford to begin with a dogmatic statement. for the christian, the supreme authority is jesus christ. if a man says, 'i'm a marxist, but i don't accept the authority of karl marx!' then he ought in all honesty to change his self-description somewhat. if a lady claimes 'i'm a vegetarian, but i mean by that- i eat the meat of vegatable-eaters!' then a less confusing word should be found. likewise, if a man says, 'i'm a christian, but i don't accept the authority of jesus christ,' then he ought to change his self-description to something else, a humanist, a democrat, or the like." -dr. j. edwin orr (p 55)

there is a clear distinction here between those who are truly 'christ-followers' and those who follow the masses of chistendom. i am reminded of john 10: "...the sheep hear his voice...and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice." (v.3-5)
